Cordially invite you to the Screening of Ayn Rand's

“We The Living”

Venue: Committee Room Alpha, National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI),
3 Siri Fort Institutional Area, August Kranti Marg, New Delhi 110016

Date and Time: 21 August 2010, 3 pm

Based on Ayn Rands' debut novel, this 1942 film starring Alida Valli and Rossano Brazzi has a checkered history. It was made in Italy during World War II, without Ayn Rand's knowledge or permission and was based on an unauthorized Italian translation of the novel. Surprisingly, it was a cult hit in Italy at the time of its release, but was soon banned by the Mussolini regime.

Decades later, Duncan Scott helped restore the film and re-edit it for release under Ayn Rand's guidance. The result is a stunning recreation of the novel that rivets you with its outstanding performances. The film is in Italian, with sub-titles in English.

Thanks to a generous offer by Mr. Duncan Scott, the producer, the screening will be followed by a live interaction with him over web-video from California. This will not only allow us to learn invaluable nuggets on the making of this film, but also give us a rare opportunity to interact with someone who has worked closely with Ayn Rand. Mr Scott has a website on the film. One can read a brief history of the rediscovery of the film there - The Banned, Lost, Rediscovered: Ayn Rand's “We the Living” Lives on! A selection of excerpts from reviews of the film "We the Living" published in international newspapers and magazines are available here http://www.indefenceofliberty.org/story.aspx?id=3542&pubid=3516

"Hugely entertaining," wrote the Los Angeles Times, and Sneak Previews called it, "An amazing piece of cinema ... I think you will fall under the spell of this film".

"Screen romance doesn't come any better than this .. Suppressed by Mussolini's fascists and long forgotten, it is not being celebrated as the lost classic that it is." - New York Newsday
